Mr William Edwy Ryerson
Mr William Edwy Ryerson was born in 1879 in Port Dover, Ontario. He had served with the British army in India and later worked for the Cunard line.
He and his English wife, Florence, had two children and were working class people with financial difficulties. He signed on as a dining saloon steward on the Titanic and was assigned the duty of manning one of the lifeboats, thereby surviving the sinking. William and Arthur Larned Ryerson were (legally) third cousins once-removed (William Edwy's father and Arthur Larned Ryerson shared a common great-great-grandfather). After surviving the sinking in lifeboat 9, William Edwy, returned to his family in England, but after some years returned to Ontario and engaged in farming. After retirement the couple returned to England where they died.
