Norfolk couple's love for Titanic

It is a tragedy that has captured imaginations for almost a hundred years, and for one Norfolk couple the sinking of the Titanic has become a fascination. Robin and Sue Burrows, from Little Plumstead, are avid collectors of memorabilia and items connected to the vessel which at 882ft long and more than 46tonnes was the world's largest passenger steamship.

Titanic life jacket sells in New York for $68,500

An unused life jacket from the doomed Titanic ship sold for $68,500 in New York on Wednesday, Christie's auction house said. The cork-filled life preserver - still largely intact, but stained and torn in parts - was thought to have been found by farmer John James Dunbar on the Halifax shoreline after the passenger ship sank off Newfoundland in April, 1912.

THE famous White Star line – which later included the Titanic among its fleet – was founded in Liverpool in 1869 by shipping mogul Thomas Henry Ismay.

Known also as the Ocean Steam Navigation Company, White Star eventually led the way in building prestigious luxury liners such as Titanic and her almost identical sisters Olympic and Britannic. When Ismay died in 1899 – his elaborate tomb can still be seen in Thurstaston churchyard, Wirral – White Star was the most successful transatlantic passenger line.

Titanic life-size replica planned

A life-size replica of parts of the Titanic could be added to Belfast's Odyssey Arena if a US-backed development plan is accepted. Suspended behind glass, the £64m scale model of the boat would incorporate a five-star hotel, an exhibition area and conference rooms.

Croswell's 'Titanic' prepares to set sail

Director Mark DiPietro is expecting his show to sink this weekend. If it doesn't, something major is going wrong. DiPietro is in charge of Titanic, which opens the three-musical summer season tomorrow in the Croswell Opera House.

Mariners' Museum archivist pleads guilty to charges related to artifacts theft

A former archivist with The Mariners' Museum in Newport News pleaded guilty Tuesday to three felonies related to the theft and sale of museum property on eBay. Lester F. Weber, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to mail fraud, theft and filing a false tax return. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 7.

'Titanic the Musical' a titanic show

William Sanders was busy Monday "refining and tweaking" cues with his technical crew in preparation for tonight's opening of "Titanic the Musical" at Civic Theatre of Allentown. Sanders says the Tony Award-winning musical focuses on the actual passengers aboard the trans-Atlantic liner, RMS Titanic, on that fateful night of April 15, 1912, as the "ship of dreams" was making her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York.

Titanic life vest to make $80,000

A life-jacket from the ill-fated Titanic could make $80,000 (£40,570) when it goes up for auction next month. The life-preserver was found during the initial recovery operation after the liner struck an iceberg and sank in 1912. The item is one of several linked to the Titanic which are being sold off by Christie's in Manhattan, New York.
