The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum is launching TITANICa: The Exhibition and TITANICa: The People’s Story to mark the centenary of Titanic’s launch on the 31st May, running until 31 August 2011.

TITANICa: The Exhibition

TITANICa: The Exhibition will feature more than 500 original artefacts and will explore Titanic and her world. It will reveal why Titanic and her sister ships Olympic and Britannic were built in Belfast and how local enterprise and skills combined to produce vessels of exceptional quality and design. Visitors can discover life on board through fascinating objects and personal stories that explore the tragic loss of Titanic in 1912.

An innovative trail will link the world-class TITANICa exhibition in the Transport Museum to TITANICa: The People’s Story in the outdoor Folk Museum. Visitors will be able to explore a living history experience of Titanic and its times by experiencing people’s daily routines, activities and stories in the period before, during and after Titanic’s maiden voyage.

Tim Cooke, Director of National Museums Northern Ireland said “The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum holds a unique and extensive collection of artefacts relating to the Titanic itself and, importantly, its wider context within the White Star Line fleet. Visitors will be able to enjoy TITANICa: The Exhibition in the context of superb galleries featuring road, rail and air transport. The exhibition will provide an important and complementary visitor attraction supporting all the efforts being made to boost tourism and public engagement over the next couple of years.”

TITANICa: The People's Story

Visitors to TITANICa: The People’s Story will be able to explore a living history experience of Titanic and its times by experiencing people's daily routines, activities and stories in the period before, during and after Titanic's maiden voyage.

Visitors will be able to walk the historic streets and journey through the shipyard riveter's home as well as visit the Post Office and compose their own Morse code message sent from Titanic, pop into the printers for a Titanic launch ticket or go upstairs in the Newspaper Room to read newspapers of the time.

A festival of films featuring shipyard workers and historic footage of life at the time when Titanic was built will be on show in the Picture House. There will be opportunities to dress up in the fashionable costume of the time or just relax and watch the children play traditional games in the park.

An innovative trail will link the world-class TITANICa: The People's Story in the outdoor Folk Museum to TITANICa: The Exhibition in the Transport Museum where visitors can see over 500 original artefacts and discover Titanic and her world.
