Newport, R. I., March 5---A settlement for $5,000 has been made by Colonel
John Jacob Astor in the $30,000 damage suit brought against him by Mrs.
Bridget McCrohan. of this city, for the death of her son, Eugene McCrohan,
at the Astor summer home on July 1, 1910.

Young McCrohan was a telephone company employe, and while at work at
Beechwood came in contact with a live wire. Mrs. McCrohan brought suit
charging Colonel Astor with negligence. The case was assigned for trial this
week and the settlement came as a surprise to-day.
