Mrs. Helen Walton Bishop Passed Away While Guest of Mrs. O. W. Cannon

TAKEN ILL FRIDAY

Had Arrived Here on Previous Day For Visit With Her Companion on Long Trip

Mrs. Helen Walton Bishop, one of the survivors of the Titanic disaster in April 1912, and who later escaped death in a serious automobile accident, a year later, died at the home of Mrs. O. W. Cannon, 604 North Vermillion Street, where she had come as a guest of the family. She arrived late Thursday from New York, after a voyage of several months through the West Indies and the Panama Canal, in company of Mrs. Cannon and had intended being a house guest. She was taken ill on the following day, and despite treatment of two of Danville's best physicians and three specialists of Chicago, continued to sink to her death. The end came at 8:40 o'clock Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Bishop's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald F. Walton, of Sturgis, Mich., were spending the winter months in Florida and were notified of the serious condition of their daughter. They immediately started north and reached Danville at an early hour Tuesday morning. Both were greatly grieved over the demise of their daughter, who was an only child. Mr. Walton is a wealthy furniture manufacturer of Sturgis.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Sturgis, Mich., twenty three years ago, and had married young. Last Christmas week she visited in Danville as a guest of the Cannon family and was in attendance at a large number of the socials and dances given during the holiday season. She met and made many friends during that period. Soon afterwards, she and Mrs. Cannon joined a party of tourists who made an extended tour of the West Indies and the friendship developed there had determined a visit of Mrs. Bishop here before her return to home at Sturgis.

There will be no local funeral services held here. The body will be taken by the parents and a number of friends over the Chicago & Eastern Illinois railway on train at 6:20 o'clock Thursday morning to Chicago and thence to the old home at Sturgis, where the funeral will take place on Friday afternoon.

Undertaker John F. Gilmore will accompany the funeral party to Sturgis.
