Thomas Holmes

RMS Carpathia 3rd Engineer

Mr Thomas Alfred Holmes was born in Kirkdale, Liverpool, England on 15 June 1875. He was the son of George Russell Holmes, a mariner originally from London, and the former Martha Malone of Liverpool. He had two known siblings.

Holmes, a marine engineer, was married in September 1899 to Susannah Carswell Shannon (b. 19 November 1875) and they had three sons, Russell, Ronald and Osborne and by 1911 the family lived at “Corbiere” on Knoclaid Road in Kirkdale. 

In April 1912, Thomas Holmes was 3rd engineer aboard Carpathia when that ship rescued the survivors of the Titanic disaster. 

Thomas Holmes died in Liverpool in February 1954 aged 78 and was buried in Anfield Cemetery. His widow Susannah died only months later.
