To give the 1943 Nazi version credit where credit is due

Very few people talk about it, but I would like to point out that the 1943 Nazi version is actually a major landmark in the evolution of Titanic's portrayal in media and pop culture. It became the "prototype" dramatization all other fictionalized film and television retellings would follow: *...

Why was some footage from the 1943 German film used in this film?

According to Wikipedia: Why was this footage used in A Night to Remember? Were the filmmakers too lazy to create new model shots for these particular scenes in the film?

Did Hitler personally watch the 1943 Titanic propaganda film?

After all, his friend Goebbels, who was minister of propaganda for Nazi Germany, sponsored the film.

Were the Wireless Officers allowed to have pets with them on board ship?

In the 1943 Nazi German Titanic film, Jack Phillips has a pet canary which he frees during the sinking. I don't think the real Jack Phillips had a pet canary on board the Titanic, but were wireless officers allowed to have pets on board ship with them in those days?

    Nazi Titanic

A documentary on Chanel Four last night asserted that footage from the Nazi propaganda movie 'Titanic' was later recycled in A Night to Remember. I wasn't aware of this. Any thoughts?

Let us give credit where credit is due

This film may be a disgusting piece of propaganda spawned from the perverted depths of Goebbles' mind, but unlike the Hollywood version that would come a decade later, this film correctly shows the passengers panicking on deck and jumping overboard in desperation instead of demurely singing...

    Filmed aboard Cap Arcona

Were the exterior shots the only portions of Titanic (1943) that were filmed aboard the Cap Arcona? Or were the interiors filmed on it as well? I'm wondering about some of the beautiful sets like the staircase/ballroom. Is that the Cap Arcona or a sound stage?

Does anyone know where I would be able to purchase a VHS copy of Herbert Selpin's 1943 Titanic in PAL format? As far as I can tell, there is no DVD version, and the VHS versions seem to all be in NTSC format. Anyone with information would be being a great help!

    Spreckense Deutsch

I don't speak or spell German, inspite of the fact that half of my grandparents came from there. So this movie is not very entertaining and it's hard to accept Captain Smith and Mr. Ismay and all the passengers of various nationalities conversing in German. Is there is a translation out there...
