I remember when an empty, recently unloaded oil tanker blew up on the Philadelphia harbor in 1973. I was 15 at the time, living about five miles away from the Delaware river on the New Jersey side, and I heard the explosions.

Recently, I've been wanting to learn more about this incident, but I can't remember the name of the ship. Does anyone here remember this incident and perhaps the name of the ship?

Thanks for the link, Tracy. I used it to see the report on the SS SANSINENA Explosion, which was out here, at the Port of Los Angeles, in December 1976 (we were far enough away, and not looking over to the Port of LA, so that the windows of our house shook, but were not displaced; that was not the case with buildings and homes much closer to the explosion, where glass was literally picked up and smashed.

Tracy, do you remember if that happened in your area?

Oh, yes. Let's just say that at the age of fifteen, I thought we were being bombed.

I was less than five miles from the site, though on the New Jersey side of the river.
