Hey There,

So would there just be a bunch of open bunks where everyone slept? Wouldn't someone get all their stuff stolen in the middle of the night?!

Sahand,

While the Olympic had 164 open-berths in two areas near the forward end of G-deck, the Titanic did not.

The prospect of theft isn't reduced by low value of your belongings, which will be attractive to those who have no more or less than you do. In doss houses (the cheapest form of lodgings available) it was standard practice before retiring for the night to lift the legs of the bed and insert them into your shoes.

What I meant was that one would possibly keep everything of value (even "relative" value, like a pair of shoes) on himself and at night... Well I guess people would just take precautions and assume everything went well... It's like when you travel in modern times, like you go to the train toilet and leave the big luggage behind, same with plane.
