90th Anniversary Commemoration

Hi Shipmates,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any 90th. Commemoration doings? April 14, 2002 should be memorialized.

I know I'll be raising a bumper in silence to her and all who sailed her on that night.

Cheers all,
Bill

Dear Bill,

There are lots of commemorative events coming up in April. ET members in L.A. are meeting at the Queen Mary, I think. Folks in Toledo are meeting at a famous ship there. The THS is having an event in Massachusetts, TIS is having one in Ottawa the first weekend in May, and BTS is having one in England. And I'm hosting one at the Titanic Ship of Dreams museum in Orlando, complete with a costume ball. Hope you can attend one of these fine events.

All the best,
Kyrila Scully

Thanks Folks!

I'm opening my own bank soon so won't get out to any of those honored events.

If anyone like Mike or Jan in the SF Bay Area is interested and available maybe we can meet in San Francisco for a mini memorial moment.

Cheers
Bill

Beverly,
I thought I saw an open invitation about it on one of the threads a few weeks ago. If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me. Type "Queen Mary" into the search engine and look through the recent posts.

There's a gathering in May in Ottawa, Ont. at Charles Hays hotel, the Chateau Laurier Hotel, and a visit to the Allison family farm nearby. First weekend in May.

Think very carefully and try and remember what happened on the 15th April 1990.

How ironic because a great Hollywood legend from movie era (whose one of my favourites) Greta Garbo actually choose to died in New York City, of all days, 15th April 1990.

Just curious but how many can remember that day?

From 1000 hours GMT on the 13 April to 0219 hours GMT on 15 April, radio station GB90MGY will be operating to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic on all bands from 10 to 80 metres.

The transmissions will all be in Morse (what else?) and will be sent from the replica of the Titanic radio station in Goldalming Surrey, England (Jack Phillips’ home town).

A special QSL card will be available.

Martin Pirrie.
