£32000 deckchair

Does anyone know the story behind the Titanic deckchair that is just about to go into auction for an estimated £32,000? I read a very small report on it in one of the Sunday papers, and all it said was that it had been sitting in someone's garage in the Lake District for about 50 years or something.

Cheers,

Boz

Hi Iain,
Well, I for one would like to hear more about it! And, I would also like to hear how a "Titanic deck chair" ended up in the U.K. when all of the ones that survived the sinking and are known to exist were picked up by the ships sent out of Canada to recover bodies of the victims and were brought back to Canada or found thier way into the USA. This is the second questionable Titanic deck chair I have heard of coming out of the UK in recent years. About a year ago, another reputed Titanic deck chair was offered for sale at a leading auction house in England. This particular chair did not sell and did not even draw any bids but someone later bought it through a private treaty with the owner after the auction. The last I heard of it, some tourist company got hooked up with the new owner who had cut it (part of the chair) into small sections and they were offering it for sale. Indeed! Please let me know anything more about the chair you mentioned. I would be most interested to know the name of the house where it will be auctioned. Kind regards, Steve Santini.
