A question of efficiency - United States or Bremen

I you compared the German liner SS Bremen from 1929 to the SS United States constructed in the 1950s, which liner would have been more efficient as far as propulsion systems are concerned? Both were powered by the most powerful steam turbine installations of their respective eras, but I can't seem to grasp how these two liners would have compared if, you say, raced them against one another across the Atlantic (provided you set a speed limit for the Big U, of course ) I personally decide to go with the Bremen on this one, but I can't deny the enguinity of American engineering.
