A real quick question Titanic mystery

In watching titanic several times there has been something that bothers me... When they dive to the wreck in the beggeing of the film you look out the porthole and see water streaming by in bright blue shades... Since they are 12 miles below the surface wouldn't all they see out the porthole be nothing but black... could someone clear this up for me.. thnx..

I don't know the particular scene that you are referring to, but it's not entirely dark as you descend the 2.5 miles down to the wreck. There is an amazing lightshow of luminescent creatures that seemingly rise past your viewport as you fall through the water column. I was lucky to have Lori Johnston as my divemate, because she could point out some creatures that have never before been seen. My favourite was a creature that took on the form of a capital "S" during the time it was visible in my viewport.

Joshua, I wouldn't worry too much about the scenes in the movie. Much of the underwater footage was actually faked up in the studio and mixed with real shots from the Mirs. The Mirs carry powerful lights which give things a blue appearance when they are on. Otherwise, it's as Parks says.

I watched the first few minutes of the film tonight and what I believe you are seeing are the lights of the Mir illuminating the particulates in the water. The sequence looked authentic to me...no mystery there.

ah, even so...you gotta forgive a little. I absolutely love the movie but there are some things about it that "bother" me too. Rose giving the finger for one. Yeah I've heard accounts that the gesture was indeed around at that time but for some reason it just "bothers" me. It doesn't end there but, my point is, is it enough to ruin the movie completely for you?

The moment I am refering to is about 3.45-3.59 minutes into the film... and no it does not ruin the movie for me it is just a mystery that to my eyes looks kinda funny...

Joshua,

I watched the movie through that sequence the night before last and it looked authentic to me. The Mir's lights are on, which not only brightens to water just outside the viewports, but also reflects off floating particulates.

i agree with parks but like donna i have some bothers to like i think that at dinner when molly says "Care to escort a lady to dinner." Jack replies "Certainly." Then cal says "sweet pea sweet pea!" are meant to be the other way around because if you play on slow forward when cal is speaking you can see the figure of Molly Brown going towards the figures of Jack and Rose
Anyone else spotted this??

yeah I've noticed that too. Is there a thread for movie mistakes or inaccuracies here? I imagine it would be a very long thread if there is. I still love you and your movie, James Cameron!
