Actual Number of 1st Class Women and Children Saved

Adding those numbers up, I assume that if we were to add the number of females and males who perished, the number would be 130 (108 women + 22 female children) and 1368 males (1338 men + 30 male children) or am I not making any sense at all?

Arthur, Kevin,

We may want to re-think who the 11 lost W&C were according to the US Senate figures, because it is from there as well as the names in the PL in ANTR that we get "11" from, and it was the Senate "11" that Kevin asked about.

Looking at the Alphabetical List, Goldschmidt is "Mr". The 11th name is Mrs Thayer.

However, when one goes to the Survivor List, Mrs Thayer and the 5 maids not marked (saved) in the Alphabetical list all appear; as does Mrs Allison; Ismay's manservant and Mrs White's manservant. - None of those 3 show as (saved) in the Alphabetical List. The Cardeza manservant [not marked as (saved) on the Alphabetical List is included. - Missing are Mr Greenfield [as (saved) on the Alphabetical List] and Mrs Straus' maid [also as (saved) on the Alphabetical List]. - There may be other errors.

But, I think when in future we refer to the "11" lost W&C from the Senate figure Mrs Thayer [not Goldschmidt] should be No "11".

The above issue could be true but In one book I read it said that 11 1st class women died plus one child "lorraine" meaning that lorraine Allison was NOT included in the listed 11 so "Mrs" Goldschmidt would be the 10th and mrs Thayer the 11th.

Hello Harry,

Please name the book.

The US Senate 1st Class Summary in part reads: "Total Number lost: Women and children, 11 ......." That will not include Mr Goldschmidt, but does include Loraine Allison.

Walter Lord says 4 women plus Loraine, but as we know in looking at the WS PL in ANTR we find 10 women plus Loraine Allison not showing as saved.

I have just looked at the Contract Ticket List and it has Mr Goldschmidt as does the typed WS PL which is part of PRO document BT 100/260.

I am now of the opinion that "Mrs" for Mr Goldschmidt is a typing error in ANTR.

With the source of "11" being the Senate List, No 11 should be read as Mrs Thayer and the book you refer to rejected for adding Loraine to the 11.

What other figures does the book give? and what does it give as its source?

Hello Erica,

Welcome aboard. I would suggest that you read through this thread, as Lester has posted a lot of excellent statisical information concerning the children. After that, I would recommend that you read the biographies of the children that survived, for their accounts of the disaster. Some of them were far too young to remember that terrible April night, but here are a couple to get you started:

Michel Navratil

Ruth Becker

I hope this helps.

Wait.... ok so you're talking about the end of the movie right? I believe it's the second thing you mentioned. That those people didn't just die on the ship, but over time. Like Rose.

I think that those were all the Titanic's passengers that had already died at any time.

I'm of the view point that the last scene in titanic WAS meant to represent those who has died ON Titanic - becuase you see trudy her maid, Cora Cartmel and her dad, the band etc - all of whom died. I think the fact you seen a few 1st class looking women - was simply poetic licence - at the end of the day jack, rose, cal etc where all fictonal characters , how do we not know there where'nt loads of other fictional characters - some of whome where 1st class class women - some of which died, for example Trudy was a fictional maid who died etc. Remember this is James Camerons FICTIONAL version.

Sorry for the dumb question after so many years, but could anyone please tell me just how many children (below 14 y.o.) were in First class?
I saw the number of 11 here on ET, but myself I was only able to count 6... Have I forgotten someone?
