I have just read this and found it rather interesting. I was surprised at the comment made about cohabitation being the norm then. I also found the comments on the Women and Children First rule being a modern idea interesting. I would have thought it would be much more likely to happen then than now. The author states that it has come about more recently, at least in people's minds because of the Titanic disaster and was not widely referred to at the time. At least up until the ship sank. Obviously it goes back to before the Titanic(ie Birkenhead) but I would have thought it was more established as a vague cultural thing more so than the author seems to think. What are people's views on this?
On the subject of exposed bodies upsetting people when the Mackay-Bennet returned, would they really have been uncovered? Hmmm.
