Another ferry disaster

Liberia - 48 people are confirmed dead and 100+ are missing after an overcrowded pirogue (large wooden canoe) capsized on the Mofa River, 50 miles north-west of Monrovia. The 15 survivors of the 200+ aboard include the boat's pilot and a pregnant woman. Overcrowding is blamed by Defence Minister Daniel Chea.

And in a lot of these ferry accidents, overcrowding seems to be a common denominator. Makes one wonder if/when the operators of these craft are going to start learning the lessons.

Makes one wonder if the govts will get off their useless bums and set some safety standards let alone enforce them.

Depends on who gets paid off by whom in some of these places, doesn't it? Some of these outfits have like the one in Liberia have the appearance of those quasi-legal operations which go on without any real oversight at all.
