Anyone see the photo of the grand staircase without the Cherub

One seldom seen Olympic photo making the rounds amongst collectors is the one of Olympic's grand Staircase; but the Cherub was missing, leaving a hole on the bannister. The snap was taken at the time of scrapping methinks. Anyone have that handy to poste? If not, ill borrow a copy from my chum and poste it soon.

Regards

Tarn Stephanos

Tarn!

I would LOVE to see that photo. I think the cherubs were nicked before the auction as they are not mentioned in the auction catalogue for the Olympic at all.

Daniel.

Snapped at a hotel in Ireland this summer...

-=Did someone say 'half a Mars bar'?

Ok, you've placed a decorated cherub and I'll raise you a Senior Marconi Operator, John 'Jack' Phillips to be precise. He worked at the Marconi trans-Atlantic station in Clifden from 1908 to 1911. (Thanks to Jemma's site for the ready reference.)

Lerv the cherub, but I'm not convinced regarding its 'day at the races' get up.

If it was 5'10" it would look like yours truly after a bout with the Clarins fake tan and an evening down at the local Wetherspoons.

Ireland's the kewlest country on earth (says she sweepingly, with a lofty disdain for shadings and distinctions), but didn't Jack Phillips have a few narky remarks to make about Clifden after a while, Jemma?

Given Clifden's location and that it was so eminently suited to trans Atlantic wireless communication I'd imagine it would be a coastal version of the back of beyond and very exposed to those bracing ocean 'breezes'. Go on, Jemma - I'd like some narky comments to go with my Mars bar.

We stayed there for a night in a nice hotel, but I'm now beginning to think it was the wrong hotel. Darn, I wish I'd seen this!

Oh well, just another reason to go back to lovely Ireland!

Thank you for the information Phil.

I'm with the others,
That isn't the cherub from the olympic
Was there any mention at the hotel saying it was ACTUALLY from the ship?
I don't think an item, of that value (as i'm guessing it would have costed quit a bit if it were from the ship) would be treated that way.
