Statistical analysis of any book produces any combination of any words you like! References to historical events have been found in novels, such as Moby Dick, etc...even Microsoft technical documents. In short - the Bible Code is a discredited, money making scam.
>>You should talk to the people who think its real.<<
People who think a work of fiction is real are doing a lot of things, but "thinking" is not one of them. Since modern day mysticism and pop culture movements are not really appropriate for this board, I'll encourage you to check out The Bible (or Torah) Code which is available on The Skeptic's Dictionary. Be sure to follow the links provided in the article.
To question one of our best magicians, "New age people are renowned for accepting beliefs without questioning them". As someone who might have believed in all this stuff decades ago, I grow ever more upset - and angry - that credulous buffoons fill up hoaxers pockets with cash from their badly researched (if they are researched at all) mental vomit.
The History Channel is a lot of things, but reliable isn't one of them. And if I was getting angry at you personally, you'd have no room to doubt it. What I am irritated at on general principle is populist New Age hoopla and drek being passed off by any number of advocates as fact.

sorry but i had to laugh when i read about the bible code in that link you gave Michael. i never knew that God wrote the bible and if Israeli mathematicians studied their bibles and did this, then english bibles will not get the same result. the Israeli mathematicians bibles would be in hebrew, not english and the words do not translate exactly.
I'm well aware of that. The link I provided was to a website which debunks this sort of thing. It also provides links and source material to back it up as well as links to comments which both support and rebut. If people want to play this sort of psuedoscientific numbers racket, that's their call, but I'll stick to the science.
Colin, I don't think Michael or anyone else was angry with you. I think he was trying to keep the discussion open to scientific fact upon which this forum is based. I do take exception to your comment about Michael being a democrat...it could be misconstrued. You might want to acquaint yourself with the rules of the forum regarding forum etiquette.
I'm a student of the Bible myself and I find the people who believe the Bible Code to be real are the type who are sucked into cult religions. The Bible has stood the test of time for centuries and does not need man to explain its secrets and mysteries. In fact it's quite simple and obvious to the person who thinks with an honest mind.
But as for a catastrophe taking place every 100 years on the 12th year, well, one only has to look at a timeline of history to see there's no merit in that theory.
Offering up a question for a debate is always encouraged, but it's best to stick to scientific or historical subjects and leave paranormal queries outside the forum.
No I wasn't. Please be so kind as to re-read the whole of my response.
>>You wouldn't happen to be a democrat would you?<<
Irrelevant to the points made, and it would be well to keep contempory politics off the board. It's just the sort of time bomb we don't need to be playing around with. For the record though, I'm exactly what my sig line states: An Equal Opportunity Curmudgeon. If it's inaccurate or just plain hokum-bunkum bovine excreta, and I have the evidence to nuke it, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
>>So, why is it an insult to call a Republican (or Socialist or Green Party member or any other American) a democrat?<<
What it was was an attempt to distract attention from the issue under discussion by focusing on the member making the points, (Myself in this case.) and is utterly irrelevant to the topic of discussion. How people of various political persuasions percieve insult is also not germane to the topics of interest to this forum, but is a good way to ignite a flamewar.
That's why modern day politics is generally off limits in this forum.

This is a very American discussion. No problem there, but I'm afraid others have different views. I think Mike is right - just drop religion, politics etc. because it is just too contentious. For us, at any rate.
