Bob Knuckle List

Hello!

This is going to sound like an extremely strange question, so I'll get to the point.

I was browsing a couple of Titanic websites (instead of studying for my Income Tax exam) when I happened across "The Bob Knuckle List", which contains the names or numbers of victims of the disaster who were buried in Halifax, NS. I scrolled through the list, until my eyes rested on the last ID number, 308.

Under the identity column, it indicates that the man was an "Engineer's Assistant." In the back of my mind I wondered if the man had subsequently been identified, since I know that there would be a limited amount of men that would fit that description. Upon coming back to this website, and looking under the listing for that grave under the graves disposition lists, I noticed that a hankerchief was found with the body that had the initials, "A.H.F." upon it. However there were no other identifying marks or clothing to identify the deceased's line of work.

In any event, I was just wondering if anyone knew how Mr. Knuckle came to the conclusion that the man listed as body 308 was an Engineer's Assistant?

I found the graves disposition list under the website: Victims of the Titanic Buried in Halifax

If there is evidence that the deceased was an Engineer's Assistant, then going very, very, far out on a limb I would hazard a guess that the man may have been Mr. A. Foster, the Engineer's Storekeeper.

I'm just curious if it was just a typographic error, or if there is information that Mr. Knuckle knew about that I do not.

If anybody could give me some additional information, it would be appreciated. I was not sure I should even ask this question, but it has been gnawing on my mind for a while.

Thanks,

Jeff Girard.

Hi Jeff,

I have no idea about the Knuckle list, but unidentified body #86
"Had keys marked 'Engineer's Storekeeper'"

The list of unidentified bodies always gets to me. Some of them had some pretty good clues, yet were buried without their loved ones knowing that they had at least been properly buried.

#129 & #178 are ones I keep coming back to...

Bill Wormstedt's Titanic has an excellent page titled An Analysis of the Bodies Recovered from the Titanic

Cal

Thanks Chris,

The ET bio for Sidney Sedunary and the ET list of unidentified bodies have slightly different information, one has clothing information, the other lists the names and addresses found on the body. I hadn't realized that the list of unidentified bodies did not have complete information. Perhaps the missing data contains the information that Jeff was asking about?

It would sure be nice if someone would go through and mark the ones that have been identified or tentatively identified.

Any idea why #86 is thought go be Rudd? There were 4 engineering storekeepers. All #86 had was light hair and a key. In the photo of Rudd, he seems to have dark hair. Rudd was the youngest of the four (Newman was 32, Kenzler was 43, and Foster was 37). That hardly seem enough for an identification.

Do you know if anyone has pulled all this together anywhere?

Warm Regards,

Cal

Hey guys.

Cal, I think 86 probably went to Rudd because of the picture they have of him in his listing. He does indeed have light hair and is 23 which matches the listing for 86. Combine that with the keys, and there is at least some compelling evidence to suggest a match.

I have sent an e-mail to the Museum in Halifax that has the website with Knuckle's list. Maybe they can shed some light too.

I agree, it would be nice to add more names to some of the unidentified passengers. Is there more information somewhere?

TTYL.

Jeff.
