I remember having read from somewhere that on the way to New York, Fireman Samuel Collins made young Frankie Goldsmith an honary member of the crew of the Carpathia if he drank a 'Bombay Oyster' (A mixture of raw egg, vinegar and water)
I would like to know if this was customary for all the Carpathia's crew and what was it all about. Also, were there any other such 'rites of passage' on other Cunard or White Star ships?
