I don't know if any of you have any knowledge or evidence on this subject but if not maybe you
have an opinion. On the port side of the raised roof over the first class Smokeroom on Britannic the general arrangement plan for RMS Britannic indicates a dog kennel. Do any of you know if this kennel ever got built on the Hospital Ship? Some more detailed deck plans of
Britannic do not show this structure. The only photo that shows this area with any clarity is the port profile photo of
Britannic where she shows a lot of rust.
That photo is also inconclusive because since the
kennel would have been the same height as
the deckhouse, you can't see whether it is there in the side shot because it woould be
the same color as the deckhouse. My personal opinion is that it was not fitted on the
Hospital Ship. Maybe the Captain had a dog but that wouldn't justify a whole kennel structure and I would think space would be at a premium in this area. It was just an add on anyway. I think the clincher for me is that it doesn't show up in the more detailed deck plans.
Thoughts or evidence anyone?
