Britannic movie

I remember seeing this. I had taped but I have no idea where it could be or if I taped over it. I mean no offense to anyone who enjoyed it but I thought it was pretty bad. I don't know; the story seemed rather dumb and the sets left quite a bit to be desired. But I didn't *hate* it, I took it for what it was worth and kind of enjoyed it a little.

Hi All!

I watched the Britannic movie when it came out and a few times after, and I found the storyline to be 500% total fiction with bad acting and little regard for historical accuracy, but then again made for TV movies are notorious for this. "Britannic" took creative licensing to a ridiculous extreme in my books here are a few of my favorite examples of this:

I laughed when I saw the crewman carrying around a tripod-mounted machine gun and using it like a tommy gun to detonate the German torpedo.

The ether bomb being dropped into a coal bunker (?) was quite amusing as well, as was the main control panel for the watertight doors being in the boiler rooms for the German spy to disable with the fire axe that was just conveniently hanging next to it!

I found the computer generated images of the Britannic to be quite obvious and poorly edited into the action scenes, especially during the sinking - the movie has the Britannic going down faster than the Lusitania for heaven's sake!

Best Regards,

Brian

Jeremy,

It is now and was then against International Law to attack a hospital ship, so no, the Britannic was never involved in a torpedo attempt.

I don't recall the decor of the GSC from the movie, however the one aboard the actual Britannic was the same as all of her sisters, minus the wood paneling and the wrought iron balustrades.

Best Regards,

Brian

The GSC in the movie looked like an ordinary staircase with wooden rails and white sides. What's more, unlike her sisters' GSCs, the one in the movie was rectangular.

So the torpedoing attempt in the movie was a fake!

I remember another thing, the ship's wheel on the bridge was so small, it looked like a joke when the quartermaster was turning it to avoid the torpedo!

Hello,

I believe that footage in the GSC area was shot in a building somewhere in Englang, I forgot where(Manchester?). Didn't resemble the Britannic's one by far, but recreating it would have costed a nice sum of money. And why spend that money if the majority of the viewers won't even notice it...(and when hearing that the Captain was named Barrett I stopped bothering about the mistakes

It indeed was not allowed to attack a Hospital ship, but that does mean these ships where not torpedoed. HMHS Llandovery Castle was torpedoed and sunk in 1918, but I'm sure Mark can name some more.

And, it is still not 100% sure what caused the sinking of the Britannic. Most say she was mined, but I will only believe that when I see 100% solid proof. Even Captain Bartlett wasn't sure.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

Regards,
Remco

Couldn't they buy James Cameron's GSC and modify it?
BTW, what happened to the GSC in Cameron's film?

I think Brittanic's GSC had been stripped down pretty well for its war duty. Though I can't really remember how it was represented in the movie, if it was plain white with simple rails, it probably wasn't far from the look of the real thing.
