Cabins

Hi George,
It has been suggested that Antoinette Fleganheim was on E-deck, across the hall from James McGough and J.I Flynn (see "cabin allocations" for E-deck). It is equally likely that they occupied a cabin on D-deck, near the Greenfields as they were friends and possibly traveling together.

Although it is difficult to say why (luggage, meals, other special arrangements) Antoinette's ticket price is rather high. Thus high for an E deck cabin or a D deck one. I would presume she was somewhat higher possibly B or A deck. However I don't know much about her or her possible cabin location.

We know that a single lady occupied a cabin across the hall the McGough (which was E23). Fleggenheim is just one of the 5 or so single ladies that would have occupied a cabin alone. Since we do not know her cabin or deck she is a possibility, along with Candee, Lindsrom and some maids.

I've heard that theory before, but from what I know and read neither makes it clear that they were close. Hugh says he went to get Mrs. Candee, that doesn't exactly mean she was on C deck.

However I may be wrong and there might be something out there that confirms she was on C deck.

From viewing the Cave list i noticed a Fr.J.Stuart Holden, who was supposed to occupy room D-11 first class. I understand Fr. Holden's wife took very ill and he had to cancel his trip..My question is : who occupied his room after he cancelled and what was the fate of the passengers??

Hello Debra,

Mrs. John (Anna) Hogeboom occupied cabin D-11. She was travelling with her sister, Kornelia Andrews (D-7), and her neice, Gretchen Longley (D-9). All three women survived on port-side lifeboat #10. (See "Cabin Allocations")

Personally, I don't believe that Fr. Holden was ever assigned to cabin D-11. For some reason, his name was included on the Cave list but not his cabin number. "Hogeboom" follows "Holden" alphabeticlly, so this may have confused you.

Hope this helps.

I think the confusion that Holden was in D11, was started by Phil Hind (sorry Phil

In the section where it talks about some of those who intended to sail, Holden is placed into D11. Of course his intended cabin is not known (as it is not indicated on the Cave list), and I do believe this mixup started because Holden's name followed alphabetically that of Hogeboom (who was booked into D11).

Daniel.
