My girlie has just told me that, at Sootn Uni, where Jim Cameron was given an honorary degree, he apologied to the descendants of 1st Officer Murdoch.

Is there any more info on this?

I have hitherto regarded Southampton University as a credible academic institution in the matter of their research into matters maritime .

I shall have to revise my opinion if they are going to thus legitimise the preposterous output of Hollywood fantasisers.

Regarding the 'apology', the Daily Mirror quoted Cameron as saying "It was a mistake. First Officer Murdoch has a family and they took exception, and rightly so." Taken out of context, it's not clear from that whether he considered the mistake to be a matter of historical accuracy or a lack of consideration.

Noel, I can assure you that, despite a jobsworth type attitude, Soton Uni is a great Uni. I got my first degree there.
