Captain Smith's arrival

Just curious, and I've never come across this information before. I'm a landlubber so please forgive the question if it is "too tiresome." Was captain Smith piped aboard when he came aboard ship? I know it is traditional in Navy vessels, but what about merchant marine and passenger vessels. It was the Titanic after all and he was Smith.

I'm not aware of any evidence to the effect that anything like this ever happened. Even in the Edwardian age, merchent vessels weren't quite as formal as naval vessels were.
