Carpathia

My wife now wears her grandfathers ring that was given to him by (unknown) in appreciation for caring for a Titanic child surviver while returning to New York on the Carpathia in April-1912.

We would like to find out the following:
1. Confirm that my wifes grandparents were in fact on the Carpathia. It appears that a complete passenger list is not obtainable as this request has been made on this message board & I have yet to see a positive response. I have tried other methods without any luck.
QUESTION: does anyone know which PORTS in England that passengers of the Carpathia disembarked. This would be during the voyage that finally took place after the Titanic rescue was completed.
It is my understanding that passenger lists are only obtainable at ports of call & not departure.

2. We would also like to research & find the name of the child etc. & who gave the ring to the grandfather.
QUESTION. Does anyone have any guidance/direction on how to start this search for the child?

Thank you

Hello again

My first posting dated Oct. 04-2003 has connected me with Lester Mitcham who has been more than helpful.
From our communication regarding my quest for information I now have further questions that would appreciate knowing the answers to.

1. Could anyone please tell me the "PORTS OF CALL"
that the Carpathia made during her voyage from New York City AFTER the Titanic rescue was completed. Did the Carpathia by chance dock at a port on the southern part of France???????.

2. Can someone tell me the "mailing address' OR "e-mail address" or "fax #" for the present day Head Office for the "Canard Shipping Line" that may be able to answer any questions that I may have regarding my quest about the CARPATHIA-1912.

3. If there is no present address by chance for the "CANARD SHIPPING LINE" that may be helpful where does one go to find the answers to the questions that I have now posted in my TWO listings.

Thanks

Welcome to our merry band, Bill!

I can't help a lot, but I can tell you that Carpathia didn't go to England after leaving New York. She went on to complete her planned visit to the Mediterranean Sea. She didn't get to England until early 1913.

She may well have stopped at a French port. Her passengers were a mixed collection of tourists and former migrants returning to their native lands. They were going to five or six ports.

You'll do better if you look for the Cunard Line. A canard is a duck! The line doesn't really exist today. It's only a brand name used by Carnival Cruises for its most prestigious ships. There is supposed to be a great stack of Cunard material at Liverpool in the university. From memory, I don't think Captain Rostron's book has details of her voyage, but it might be worth a try.

I'm afraid you are in for a hard slog, but others are working on the passenger list and you might get lucky.

Thank you Dave.

Your information has helped me a lot.
I tried to e-mail the University in Liverpool & just got the run around.
Please keep me in mind if you discover any info that may be helpful to me.

The HARD SLOG you mentioned may get softer in time.

Thanks Bill

Bill, I don't know whether there was any variation for that particular voyage, but when in the Mediterranean the Carpathia generally called at Gibralter, Genoa, Naples, Fiume and Trieste.

Bill, if it helps in your search for records, when the Carpathia set out again for Gibralter it was expected to arrive on April 29, and certainly was there on May 18 when Captain Rostron replied to a cable from Senator Smith in Washington.
