Carpathia's Captain Prothero

I have some items from a sailing in 1913 aboard the Carpathia. A signed souvenir by William Prothero and a log abstract and some pictures and a couple of letters written on board.
I am trying to find out when Captain Prothero took over command. I thought it was in 1915-1916 when Rostrom retired, but he apparently was captain in 1913 also?? Was he filling in for Rostrom during this time?

Tom, so far as I know Rostron was Captain of the Carpathia until December 1912. Then he left that ship for ever.
Maybe I misunderstood, but Rostron did not retired in 1915-1916. He retired after a long carer in 1931. He was Captain of the Carpathia only in 1912.

I found an old passenger list for the SS Servia for 1897 and for the SS Umbria for 1890. Arthur H. Rostron was listed on each as a crew member. He was a Spinner? on the Umbria and a Fitter on the Servia. Does anyone know what he did in these positions? He went on to become Master of the Carmania, Saxonia in 1913-1918.

"July 1, 1912 I returned to England to attend the inquiry, then followed several weeks of holiday. it was in December that I left the Carpathia." Arthur Rostron memoirs. I am not sure what he did between the holiday and leaving the ship.
