Just caught the tail end of Channel 4 news (UK), discussing an auction of Titanic memorabilia in Wiltshire tomorrow (?). It also had a very sorry picture of the Nomadic - covered in rust and muck below the waterline.
G'day Paul - this must be the Henry Aldridge and Son auction that takes place today - Saturday 18 September. I heard from Andrew Aldridge about a particular item of interest (at least to me!) going on the block - item 201, a Purser's cash book belonging to Claud Lancaster from 1912 onwards. According to Andrew, there are even details of the Olympic benevolent fund for the victims of the Titanic. As always with Aldridge auctions, the catalogue alone is worth buying. You can have a look at the on-line listing on their website:
There are many items that would be of interest to ET members - Lucile fans (e.g. Randy!) would perhaps be keen to bid on lot 182 - a book titled "Montes the Matador and Other Stories', from her collection, and an inscription from the author 'To Landy Duff-Gordon from the author, Frank Harris, in memory of an unforgettable afternoon sanctified by some emotions and sensations immoral April '09'.
An EJ Smith picture, items belonging from Wheelton's collection, a Jack Philips postcard, a letter from the wireless operator on the Birma....lots of good stuff!
