Hey there Chris. My name is Maureen and there are a whole lot of "Carr" names in my family and my brother does family trees.

Anyway, several researchers got together and combined their efforts to develop a "Carr" sirname Database. Your grandfather may be there. I will ask him to research information regarding Charles John Savage for me and get back with you. Maybe he can provide infomration so that you can research it yourself....That's half the excitement right.
Maureen.

Chris,
The site I gave you is a very large database and Carrs are just one name listed. It is not just my brother's information but many use that site.

But you must do what you feel is best. Maureen.

My grandfather Charles J Savage, steward on Titanic survived and disappeared afterwards, I wonder if it was a guilt thing that they had survived, there was no aftercare in those days.

Dear Chris, I am fairly certain your grandfather Charles James Savage was born in Brightlingsea, Essex in 1888. What became of him afterwards is however not known. If you ever were to find out, would you please let me know?

Dear Chris, your possibly right. Family stories say that my grandfather John Bertram Ellis"jumped ship" in the USA, whether this was straight after the sinking or in later years is not known. My father was born in October 1912 and never discussed his father for the rest of his life. Maybe they could't face coming home like you suggest.

I'm assuming he doesn't show up in the CRI for seamen circa 1920-1921? I'd be happy to do a look-up, but I'm assuming this has already been checked.

Dear Inger,I did not find out that my grandfather was on Titanic until 3 months ago so have done no other checking, in fact I do not know where to look. It would be great if you could do a look-up in the CRI for me

Not a problem - I'll keep an eye out for him in various crew agreements too, just in case.

Dear Chris & Peter, I can confirm that Charles J Savage was born at Brightlingsea. He was baptised at All Saints Church Brightlingsea on 27 Jan 1889.

His sister Winifred married Sidney Conrad Siebert a bedroom steward on the Titanic on 5th Oct 1907 at Brightlingsea.

Charles appears to have been living with his sister and brother in law as they both gave the same address when they signed on to the Titanic.

I believe Charles, who survived the disaster, may in later life have lived in America.

I have traced the Savage family history back to the mid 1700's with a reasonable degree of certainty.

I would be prepared to provide further information if I had an E-mail address.
