My Great grandfather was an engineer working in the boiler room of the Titanic, he was only 14 years old at the time so he used someone elses name to work on the ship.He survived and saved a nurse from drowning, he was given 2 medals 1 of which was the ST George cross for bravery. he gave these medals to his sister.i really need to know the name of the person he used on the titanic as no one in my family knows, could anyone help me..?

Hi Teresa,

The George Cross was only instituted in 1940.

In other words, more than a quarter of a century after the Titanic sinking.

There have been very few recipients.

Charles Phillips is not one of them.

Some >mistake< somewhere. Perhaps some other ship, some other medal?
