Can anyone tell me if there were new car molds on the Andrea Doria, when she went down? From what I heard, they were to be for the 1959 model year.

Is there any way to find out? I know the Doria had a prototype car that was built, called the Norseman, that was in the hold of the ship. It was built by Ghia.

In the log, Calamai stated there were nine cars aboard, one being a prototype and the only thing I remember about the cars is that one was a $3,000 station wagon owned by a Florida couple.

Chrysler had been playing with turbine drive cars in 1956. One of their prototypes went to the bottom inside the Doria. The investment and testbed must have been worth a fortune. Obviously, there would be no point in trying to recover it today.
