Comus what is it

Hi
W H Slight joined the Olympic for it's maiden voyage on 14 June 1911.
I have just received a copy of the Crew Signing on Sheet.
He gives his previous ship or Port as 'Comus' or 'Colmus' (as the l seems to have been crossed out with two short dashes)
Can anyone tell me what this is?
An abbreviation perhaps?
Your help would be appreciated. Thank you

Comus is a likely name. Comus was the son of Dionysis. He was the god of boozing and general making of whoopee. Milton wrote a masque of that name, so he was well known to English scholars.

Son of Dionysis?
Interesting but does not help me move forward.
I'm hoping Comus is a ship (although I can not trace it)
I'm sure my great uncle was not a boozer!!

There was at that time an SS Comus of the Southern Pacific Steamship Co, based in New York. The Comus seems to have been employed mainly on the coastal run between New York and New Orleans, and had more than its share of collisions along the way.

Thanks Bob
I think it unlikely that this man worked in the States but who knows?
There was also an HMS Comus but it did not come in to service until about 1915, about 4 years after the date I'm looking at.
