Hydrographic Surveying, meteorology, oceanography, economic geography, ship construction and shipmaster's business and law were included in Part A. Maths, physics, navigation, compass work, engineering and naval architecture in Part B. Each part required pass mark of 70% with no paper below 50%. Part A 4 papers of 3 hours and Part B 3 papers of 4 hours and 2 papers of 3 hours. I believe the examination was lowered in standard from about 1980 onwards until it was discontinued. I found the Extra Master Examination far more demanding than the M.Sc in Business Administration that I subsequently obtained at Bath University.Craig Rich Extra Master. M.Sc.
