Cross channel passengers

Hi all! Can anyone tell me what the first class cross channel passengers did during their short voyage? I mean that, especially those travelling to Cherbourg, had little time. Did they have staterooms, how much did they pay, did it include food etc? Thanks!!!

George,

The cross channel first class passengers paid just over a pound each (I don't have the exact figures with me), and they got no cabin, there was no point since they were going to be on the ship for 5 or so hours. Meals were included and they were free to explore the accommodation of the class they booked. Of course the swimming pool would be boring as it would be empty until the ship reached cleaner waters.

Daniel.

George,

To fill the swimming pool, they actually used the sea water from outside the ship. They constantly replaced it ... water flowed in from the outside and would flow out again. Since the water around the ports and busy shipping lanes was really dirty, they didn't fill the pool with water until they reached the open sea where the water was cleaner.

Daniel.

PS. The reason that I even mentioned the pool was that the 1st class cross channel passengers could use and explore all the 1st class public rooms. They could go and visit the pool, but it would have been empty and they would not have been able to use it.
