That's what I love about this site -
It's constantly throwing up great stories I had no idea about.

...though judging by the report on the link Dave mentions I'd suspect the spirit most involved in the Ivan Vassili story was Vodka....

Hello. I have an account of the Russian freighter, Ivan Vassili, on my website at:
http://www.underworldtales.com/ivan.htm.

The ship, built in 1897, was supposedly haunted by an evil entity that was picked up along the coast of Africa. It drove many of the crew members to suicide. Not long after these incidents, the ship was burned by the crew.

It is very difficult to find any information about this ship. I only know of one account that was written about it in 1965, a book by Vincent Gaddis called Landmark Invisible Horizons; however, the book is now out of print.

At any rate, you can learn more about the ship and what happened aboard her in my article.

If anyone here has any other information about the ship or a picture, I would appreciate it if you'd share it with me. I'm doing research and trying to learn more about the ship.

Thanks,
