I recently rewatched James Cameron's titanic and I noticed that the second funnel never falls. In some Scenes, you can see the top of the funnel in the water. Does anyone know If It Fell In The Movie Or Not??

As far as I'm aware the movie never shows the funnel being lifted from it's casings and falling into the water as it did in real life. The last time the number two funnel can be seen in the movie chronological is with the shot of Mr. Ismay in collapsible Engelhardt lifeboat C behind his back. The next exterior shot the casing of the number 2 funnel is already fully underwater.

The movie only shows funnels 1, 3, and 4 collapse. After funnel #2 is seen behind Ismay in Boat C, the film cuts to the engineers in the Engine Room trying to keep the power on. Immediately after one of the engineers electrocutes himself, the film cuts back to the outside of the sinking ship and only funnels 3 and 4 are visible. By process of elimination, this tells us that funnel #2 had to have collapsed while we were watching the scene with the engineers.

I feel like this type of depiction might be a nod to Lightoller’s unsureness about whether or not he could see the second funnel fall. I don’t have the exact quote, but he was asked how many funnels were visible during a certain moment in the final plunge, and wasn’t able to give a clear answer.

But you also have very vivid testimony from Jack Thayer about the sparks and soot shooting out of the second funnel as it fell near him on the starboard side. This definitely could have been a cinematic opportunity for Cameron’s movie.
