In the "Sherlock Holmes" stories of that period "Dr. Watson" makes mention of patients calling at his home after he moved out of 221-B Baker Street when he married.

To give it a Titanic connection, in 1913 the husband of stewardess Evelyn Marsden, Dr W A James, was practising in a surgery a few hundred metres from his house. A later doctor in the same town practised in a surgery attached to the house. Doctors' varied procedures according to circumstances. A country doctor I used to attend was practising at home as late as 2001.

I'm glad I came across this thread because I am in the midst of writing a Titanic story and had planned on writing of an occurrence at a doctor's, more specifically a psychiatrist's, office, in Manhattan. Given the information I've read here so far, could this be possible? I would think in such a major metropolitan area there would have to have been at least a few. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
