Eau de Titanic

I have just found an article which I thought I should share with you:

"NEW TITANIC DISCOVERY SMELLS LIKE MONEY
By TODD VENEZIA
--------------------------------------------------

Call it Eau de Titanic.
It's a fragrance that comes from 21/2 miles beneath the ocean's surface, from the wreckage of the Titanic - and it soon may be coming to a store near you.

Divers searching the debris around the 89-year-old sunken ship have uncovered a leather pouch containing dozens of vials of rare perfume oil lost by a German perfumer who raced to the lifeboats so fast, he left his life's work on the sinking ship. Now, a company is using the long-forgotten aromas to synthesize a marketable scent that will give Titanic lovers around the world a memento from the luxury liner.

"At first, we didn't know what we had," said Dik Barton, the salvage expert who made the discovery. "But when we got it to the surface, we could tell it was something unusual. There was this strong, flowery odor filling the ship. It was an amazing moment." The company that holds the salvage rights to the ship's wreckage, RMS Titanic Inc., is now in talks with several manufacturers, including the maker of Calvin Klein's CK One, to produce the Titanic perfume in time for Christmas.

The company is kicking around a few names for the scent, but is leaning toward "Heart of the Ocean," after the stunning sapphire necklace that Kate Winslet wore in the movie "Titanic.'

So what does Eau de Titanic smell like?
"The essence oils smell flowery, some like lavender and some like roses," Barton said. "We are having a chemist analyze them. The next step will be to blend them and make them into a perfume."
Barton said his dive team found the bag of scents last summer, during a search of debris around the ship's stern. The vials were in a pouch marked with the name of Adolphe Saalfeld, a German-born perfumer who was carrying his collection of aromas across the Atlantic in hopes of creating a high-end U.S. company catering to well-heeled society women.

Saalfeld, who was traveling in the first-class quarters, survived the tragedy by jumping onto a lifeboat along with the women and children.

After the disaster, the up-and-coming perfumer faded into obscurity, mostly because of the dim view the public took of men who didn't go down with the ship." (from: pagesix.com/celebritynews/38169.htm )

C,

When I was last in Germany, I bought some T perfume in Dusseldorf. It was actually made in France, but I had never seen it before--or since. My wife, of all people, insisted I leave it in its package for posterity.

Crown Perfumery where are you????????

G

Hi there,

Wasn't Adolf Saalfeld from Köln? Eau de Cologne perhaps? hehehe

Gavin, aren't you affraid that the parfume will go bad? I have 7 parfumes myself (Yes, I'm just a beginner) and I'm told that they go bad, when they stay to long in their sprays. Well, maybe the T perfume stays good as long as real Titanic...

regards,
Rolf

Hi Christine,

Thank you for sharing that with us.

Thanks Christine- sounds divine but I will take Dick Barton instead of the perfume any day! Easily the handsomest man in the world.! Also married and a proud Papa! Alas the good ones are always taken....

Just thinking up a packaging promo- how about Coeur de la Mer- a wave swept bottle with a top set with a heart-shaped sapphire, a small glittering White Star embedded- Liz Taylor can be pitch person! Or maybe our Kate -gazing out of the TV screen, hair windswept- breathing huskily.. "Let him know he's the King of the World, pause, pause- wet lips- Coeur de la Mer- for that Night to Remember..(My Heart will go on in the background)- "And the Night Will go on!- Kate's luscious lips pouting suggestively. Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Bath Sea Salts (natch), and talcum powder- deluxe sampler set gift-wrapped in a cunning silver shell box- sign me up!

I'm on a roll here- why stop at ladies' stuff- how about (drumroll) LEO!! Eau de Cologne pour Hommes! Manly fragrance for the adventurer in your life. For the real rugged he-man who stops at nothing- a king of the WORLD- a voyager, bon vivant and rescuer of damsels in distress. And for those truly CLOSE shaves- the LEO! Shaving Gel-a bracing seabreeze confection to set up those whiskers! And finally- Never Let Em See You Sweat- the LEO SPEED STICK -stay DRY under the most harrowing scenarios (including your girlfriend chewing up the scenery with a fireaxe).-Ah, the possibilities are endless-now to ponder something for the babyset....

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....

Oh my Good, my stomach.... Hehehehehahahaha.... That's GREAT, Shelley..., absolutely GREAT and so true at the same time. One day you'll turn on your TV set and see just the same spot. Then you'll remember this day in April when you sat in front of your crystal-ball, the black cat on your shoulder... *burstoutlaughingagain* ... You know- usually I am the one with the sick phantasy but there's absolutely NOTHING to add
