Elevators on Titanic

One would think the elevators would have all been stopped at their top most floor. A-deck forward and the boat deck aft. The lift operators would have seen the water entering the lower deck and if anything would want to keep the expensive lift cars up and dry. It would also be safe to assume it was standard procedure to stop using the lifts as any serious listing would possibly cause the lifts to shift and bind up.

As to where are they now? I would guess at the bottom of the shaft. Time and rust probably took its toll on the cables and then gravity took them down one last time.

Mark,

I believe that you misunderstood me. I have some evidence regarding the after elevator, which I described above. I have not seen enough evidence regarding the forward elevators. I have seen the inside of the forward elevator machinery room, but there was no obvious clue like the empty spool seen conveniently in the after house. Jim Cameron and Ken Marschall noticed the damage to the lower doors caused by hydraulic pressure, but I don't know if they saw the cars themselves. That's the evidence that I was talking about that I haven't seen or know if it exists.

David,

Assuming that the shafts are true and were not warped into a bottleneck.

I am signing off now. I'm leaving to spend a few days at Fox Studios Baja and will be out of touch. I'll ask Ken about the elevators while I'm down there.

No, I was referring to the aft elevators, although I got your status on the evidence switched around. I was asking for more input regarding the evidence on the aft elevators.

By the way, were Cameron and Ken referring to the forward or the aft?

Hydraulic pressure? That sheds another light on my theories (not against them, just more illuminating).

Have fun at Baja. I will look forward to hearing about the elevators when you get back.

Speaking of elevators. I have came up with this and it shows more elevators and the reasoning behind the elevators is to get more people up all the way to boat deck and have it so that more people can use the elevators at a time.
