I am almost finished reading "The Sinking of the Eastland-America's Forgotten Tragedy" by Jay Bonasinga- published in October 2004 by Citadel Press. It is an excellent minute by minute humanistic approach to this terrible disaster- highly readable & recommended!

Barnes & Noble has this on the shelves right now. I'm holding off on buying it just in case it turns up under the Christmas Tree but at first gance, I'm inclined to agree with that assessment. Among other things, there's a photo of the ship immidiately after she rolled onto her side which Jim Kalafus mentioned last night and a few others as well that are even more sobering. Probably the saddest one I saw was one of a firefighter with the body of a small child in his arms.
