Father Basil Maturin

Don't know if anyone is interested, but if they are, then here is a link to an old 1920 memoir written by Maisie Ward:
Father Maturin: A Memoir

Granted, for those who are strictly interested in the Lusitania connection, it only briefly mentions his death on the ocean liner towards the end of part V, but its still a fascinating read. Okay, maybe not for everyone. If religious bios aren't your thing, it may actually be a bit dry.

However, I have never seen a photo of Father Maturin. I have a book written by him (a modern reprint) and there is no picture. Even his bio in The Lusitania Resource doesn't have one. I've always sort of wondered what he looked like, so if anyone has or knows where a photo of Father Maturin might be, I'm interested.

Hi Doni,

here is a picture of Father Maturin when younger

Okay, I now have another Father Maturin question. The last account on him was that he handed a baby into a lifeboat and said, "Find its mother." Does anyone know who might have been that baby?

Hi Doni,

If you're interested, I've a couple of photographs somewhere of Basil Maturin's headstone. Until recently, it was wholly obscured by 90 years' worth of ivy that had grown up around it. Unfortunately, the inscription has been pretty much obliterated.

All the best,
Ben
