The latest in the continuing saga of the poor unwanted Norway. The more I read the more I agree with FDR when he commented on the breaking of Mauretania. "Better they had taken her out to sea and sank her in a Viking's funeral." Imagine the image of a 1000+ long ship slowly sliding under the waves.

If I were Supreme Dictator of the world, I'd order technical experts to designate a small part of the deep ocean as a grave for old ships and Davy Jones take Greenpeace!

Does anybody really think that ships sunk in 4,000 metres pose a risk to anything? Think of what is already there and consider what harm it's doing. All the greenies are accomplishing is increasing the risk to workers and the environment onshore.

Oh...count on it!

It's a pity that Greenpeace likes to take things to obstructionist extremes like this. They're not always wrong, but these sort of games only serve to shift the problems around rather then do anything to solve them. Minister Tariqul Islam needs to meet with some bona fide scientists instead of these conspicuously unnamed "Officials" and environmental groups.

There was an article on the France/Norway in our local papers today, regarding the same things that have been mentioned in the posts above, the ship being just a few miles off Port Kluang in Malaysia. There was a picture showing the ship being eaten away by rust and its name painted over, it looked a really bad shape. Also, the article mentioned something about being able to rent a launch from Port Kluang to go alongside the ship, and that several foreigners have already done so. Maybe I should consider doing so during my next holiday, only hoping for it to still remain there....(Port Kluang is about 2 hours away by car from where I live BTW)

As the late and greatly talented Freddie Mercury would have said: Another one's gone, another one's gone, another one bites the dust.

What is truly irritating, although perfectly understandable, is that these proper ships are being replaced by things that don't look like real ships at all. I guess that's progress, but I don't have to like it.
