Frauenthal's Cabins

It is known that Mrs Harris was playing cards in the B-deck reception room with her husband on april 14 at the end of the day. Then, she went to her cabin to dress before dinner. On her way, she slipped and fell on the C-deck grand staircase. Henry William Frauenthal, a joint specialist, probably leaving his cabin, take care of Mrs Harris' arm. So, Mr and Mrs Frauenthal had their suite on C-deck, amidship I believe. My suggestions are C-73 or C-75, because they are unoccupied cabins with private bathroom (their price certainly suggest that: £133, 13s) but they could have been on port side too. If someone had new ideas about the Frauenthals'cabin, I would be very pleased. All the best,

Charles

Dear Charles,

I thought I would answer your request here publicly so that others may know this information also.

Dr. Frauenthal wrote an account of his experiences in the Titanic disaster. In his memoirs, he wrote that he and his wife occupied cabin C88. He even went on to describe a conversation that he had with George D. Widener following the collision. Interestingly, Dr. Frauenthal never knew the Titanic struck an iceberg until he and his wife were sitting in boat #5 awaiting rescue.

I hope this information will be of some help. Dr. Frauenthal's memoirs have never been published to my knowledge which was why his cabin remained a mystery for so long.

Regards,

Michael Findlay

We know that Isaac Frauenthal took cabin D-40 when he joined his brother Henry Frauenthal and Henry's wife Clara? But what cabin or cabins did Henry and Clara have? Would they have been on D deck with Isaac or somewhere else on the ship?
At first I thought they might have shared with Isaac but I discovered that D-40 is only a 1 berth cabin, so I think that it would have been unlikely.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank-you

Leigh, I did some poking around and couldn't find anything to help. The best information on cabin assignments can be found HERE. It should be noted that some of the entries here are speculative. As the only people who know for sure have since gone on to their Eternal Reward, will likely remain so.

I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but I'll probably have to wait awhile for that to happen.

Hi Leigh,

Off the top of my head C-88. Sorry but I cannot immediately locate an item I have in which the Doctor gave that as his room number. He was just along from the Wideners.

Greetings Michael,

We could delete some of the speculation, by deleting the B-deck rooms for Margaret Brown and giving her the entry for E-23.

See the splendid E-T research paper by Daniel Klistorner on this subject.

Hi Leigh,

Thanking you. For Daniel's paper go to the Research papers on the right-hand side of this web-site's opening page: Article Index. The paper you want is: Molly Brown: Mystery Unravelled by Daniel A. Klistorner.

Happy reading.
