Leading Fireman Frederick Barrett gave us one of the most important tales of any survivor in my opinion. His description of what went on in the bowels of the ship that night is so detailed. Without it, I don't believe we would have ever known what the stokers in the boiler rooms (especially Boiler Room 6) did to save themselves or how fast the water was really coming in (which, according to Barrett, was pretty fast). I'm still amazed that he made it out alive.

Yes sir,I've always been interested in Barrett.
I also have always thought the same thing.
"Without Barrett, how would we have known?".
That particular area of the ship would have scared the hell out of me,more than being on the boat deck.
