It seems we can't go more than a couple weeks without hearing of another ferry disaster. This time it happened in Ghana with a loss of at least 120 lives. Here's a link to a story about it from CNN's web site: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/africa/04/10/ghana.boat/index.html

The article states that local police "have been warning boat owners about overcrowding for the past few weeks." Apparently, the news of other recent capsizings reached Ghana, but the lessons didn't.

All too predictable I'm afraid. Something happens, there's a hue and a cry with calls for somebody to "Do Something" and after a short time, it's back to business as usual. I wonder how many more bodybags need to be filled before these operators begin to realize that business as usual is a bad idea!
