Can anyone tell me if the UK (region 2) DVD of GOTA contains the extended 90 min version of the film as well as the original? I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Thanks

The original 58 minute version is all you get, on a single disc with some extras. If your equipment can handle it, get the Region 1 set with 2 discs. Amazon UK offer a choice.

Thanks Bob, Region 1 it is (I thought that we'd seen the last of this "different versions of DVDs for different regions" nonsense. Sadly not ...)

Yeah, I thought that too, Paul. In fact, this is the first dvd I've seen for years where we in Region 2 are deprived of the real deal. Sod's Law, of course, that it would have to be this one! :-(

Thing is, surely it's *more* trouble having to compile a different release with different menus and content? Daft if you ask me!

Cheers

It doesn't make any sense to me, either. Does any of you know the exact reason why the Region 2 release contains only one disc? I'm curious about why there's two different versions. I think that's a crumby arrangement.

Marketing decision, no doubt. Titaniacs aren't too thick on the ground on this side of the pond, so maybe they figured a slightly cheaper package would sell better and the extended version of the film itself would not be missed. As far as I can see the extras which were on disc 2 have survived intact and now occupy the vacated space on disc 1.

No doubt the accountants also decided that only the Japanese, who have a fondness for gadgetry, would want to buy the 3D edition.

Ah, I see. Well, at least the extra features were left intact. It is a shame you don't get to watch the extended version of the film though. You said this package is slightly cheaper. How much does it cost? My two-disc set only cost $19.99, a cheap price compared to most DVD releases boasting extended editions.

Amazon UK currently have the single-disc region 2 package in the bargain bin at less than £7 ($13 US), while the two-disc region 1 set is offered to UK buyers at about twice that price.

Well, $13.00 is quite cheaper. The Region 1 seems to cost about as much to UK buyers as a typical extended edition DVD set. I agree, it's no doubt a marketing strategy.
