Would appreciate any information on whether Mrs. Astor provided gifts of any sort to the crew members after the sinking.

Thank you,

John

Mrs. Astor, along with Mrs. Thayer and Mrs. Widener, bestowed Captain Rostron with a gold Tiffany & Co. pocket watch inscribed "Presented to Captain Rostron with the heartfelt gratitude and appreciation of three survivors of the Titanic. April 15th 1912. Mrs. John B. Thayer. Mrs. John Jacob Astor. Mrs. George D. Widener." The watch was sold at an Onslows maritime auction in 1993.

I hope the Pocket Watch ended up in a museum. But it's probably stashed away somewhere in somebody's Private Collection.

But is there any truth to the idea that Mrs. Astor gave each surviving crew member a pipe, as has been claimed by at least one man?
