Grand staircase lights

I recently aquired the light fitting as shown in the attached photo at a village hall auction . After purchase I enquired where it had come from and was told that the elderly vendor lived in Hampshire and had purchased it at auction in Southampton in the mid 30's and it had come off a ship. Is it what it appears to be?

Wow, I'm not in a position to say where that could have come from but I will say this . . . you are one lucky guy to have one of those. Aren't they beautiful?

Adam,

It most definitely looks like one of the grand staircase 3-light chandeliers from the grand staircase. These were found in the fore boat deck staircase, and both A deck landings fore and aft. B deckonwards used different lamps (the cut glass bowls). If this dates back to the 1930's, it most probably came from the Olympic. After all, there were about 100 to go 'round.

Daniel.

does anyone have another one of these chandeliers as i would be interested in knowing if they have the same registration marks as the other type recently sold at the Haltwhistle sale?

Aidan,
yes you can ask - £180.00 and would have been £80.00 if a lady hadn't thought it looked nice and run it up . i asked the auctioneer to enquire if the vendor had any more (greed) and the reply was that there had been 5 in the lot but the other four were left at a property sold in the 60's

Adam
You lucky so and so! When you think that the "cut glass bowl types" from the Haltwhistle auction went for over £1000 I think you got a bargain.Yours looks so much nicer as well, much prefer the bead type fittings. What a pity that the other 4 were left at a property..I have a sad feeling that they were properly chucked out by the new owners not realising their historical value to be replaced by 60's decor...
