Well this is what I wrote on Amazon - I have never done a public review before. In the end, I did not consider it wasted money and glad it is in my library.
3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been great but too many factual errors Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022 Verified Purchase I really looked forward to this book having read several articles by this author. I was disappointed. I did learn a lot and this book could have been great but there are several factual inaccuracies that could have been easily caught: Examples Page xi - the Vanderbilts on the Titanic; many references to the 300 foot gash; p 9 Sunday April 12 (14th);p13 Captain Smith of the Cunard Line (White Star of course) ;-all in the first 16 pages. p 22 "hard turn to stern"; p 99 Ismay in Lifeboat 14; p 102 Dr. Dodge saw Murdoch shoot himself - not possible; Dr. Dodge was safely off in a lifeboat as noted in the book; 129 Major b*** escorting 5 ladies to lifeboats (Archibald Gracie) p120 Daniel Buckley -15 years old; 199 -200 Ismay never saw anyone on Carpathia and yet he did see Jack Thayer as the book states. Well you get the point. I am glad I bought it but this could have been a classic. (I own over 200 Titanic books) He also, while giving just credit to Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember" and quotes extensively from it, has a really snarky tone towards that classic.
