Comment: With all the captains who have been getting sacked lately, it seemed appropriate to devote a special thread to the issue. With some of the maintainance problems of the fleet coming home to roost, I expect we'll be seeing more of this sort of thing.

Rear Adm. Michael J. Connor, commander, Task Force 54 (CTF 54) and commander, Submarine Group 7, relieved the commanding officer of USS Hartford (SSN 768), Cmdr. Ryan Brookhart.

I read this yesterday and thought it a bit different that aside from the usual "Loss of confidence" statement, he elaborated that the investigation was not complete, but enough evidence existed to relieve the CO-
It was his second command, but nothing came to the surface until an incident occurred.
Bad way to end a career-

Chief of Hartford sacked after collision

The top enlisted sailor aboard the attack submarine Hartford was fired last week, the latest fallout from the boat’s collision with an amphibious ship near the Strait of Hormuz.

Master Chief Electronics Technician (SS) Stefan Prevot, the sub’s chief of the boat, was relieved last week in the Persian Gulf before the crippled sub began its surface transit back to Connecticut for repairs.

Coast Guard CO fired; misconduct alleged

The commander of Coast Guard Sector Anchorage, Alaska, has been fired amid allegations of misconduct, the service announced.

Rear Adm. Arthur Brooks, commander of the 17th Coast Guard District, temporarily removed Capt. Mark Hamilton from command May 11. A Coast Guard news release cited alleged misconduct and a loss of confidence in Hamilton’s ability to command as the reasons for Brooks’ action.

Navy captain to command last shuttle flight

A twin, three space station veterans, a Hubble repairman and a veteran shuttle pilot were named Tuesday to a flight that might be the final mission of NASA’s three-orbiter fleet.

Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, whose twin brother, Scott, is also an astronaut, will command STS-134, a mission now set to launch on Sept. 16, 2010.

Pacific Fleet to get new commander Friday

SAN DIEGO – The Navy’s top fleet command in the Pacific region is changing hands Friday in Hawaii.
